5735—1975, during a farbrengen, the Rebbe responded to a newspaper article that harshly slandered Chabad and its outreach campaigns, which the Rebbe had recently established. The Rebbe strongly admonished his chasidim not to engage with the author or his supporters in any way, and urged them instead to increase this holy work. He later said that he was only addressing this issue so the chasidim would not be discouraged, and as a result of his words, the mitzvah campaigns continued with even more enthusiasm.
