5735–1975, during an unexpected farbrengen dedicated to the mitzvah campaigns, the Rebbe clarified — even though it is “completely obvious” — that these campaigns do not belong to Lubavitch and that no one can misrepresent this reality: “Torah, tefillin, mezuzah, tzedakah, Shabbat candles, and Purim belong to the entire Jewish nation. Every Jew must promote them — and it is his great fortune to do so.” The Rebbe added that if another community would outdo Lubavitch in this arena, he would welcome that because “then we will accomplish more!”
