("And Hashem spoke to Moshe after the death of the two sons of Aharon, in their coming closer before Hashem and they died. And Hashem said to Moshe: speak to Aharon your brother, and do not come at any time to the holy place [...].")

Asks the Ohr haChaim haKadosh: What exactly are these pesukim coming to teach us? Why does it not just say straight out that the kohanim may not enter the Holy of Holies at any time? Why so many words?

Says the Ohr haChaim: We are being taught here many things. One of those lessons is that even Moshe may not enter the Holy of Holies. That is what the posuk is spelling out how Hashem told Moshe specifically, and like our Sages teach us that Nadav and Avihu were super-close to Hashem, and nevertheless (or because of this) their neshamos went straight back up to the Kisei haKavod (Hashem's "seat in heaven", so-to-speak) on the holy day of the inauguration of the Mishkan. So too with Moshe, even though there is no one closer than him to Hashem, he still may not go in to the Holy of Holies whenever he may please.

Says Rebbi Avigdor Miller z"l, this "closeness to Hashem" was not just a side-point in Moshe Rabbeinu's life, rather it was actually the cause of his being chosen to be the leader of Klal Yisrael, and that is actually why Hashem had arranged it that he spend so many years "alone", first in the palace of Paroh, and later as a shepherd in Midyan: to simply get close to Hashem!

Story:

A yungerman became very close with the holy Rebbi Gershon Libman z"l in France, yet it came time for him to return to his home town. On his way out, he asked Rebbi Gershon for advice: "What will I tell all my friends? 'Novardok!?!?!? Is that those people that go to pharmacies and ask for nails!?!?!?!?'." Said Rebbi Gershon: "Tell them like Dovid haMelech said in Tehilim (73): V'ani kirvas Elokim li tov: I like just being close to Hashem."
