5713-1953, in a letter to the administration of a fund supporting yeshivah students, the Rebbe expressed surprise that they spent less than their revenue, noting that they were probably the only Chabad institution which operated this way. He reminded them about having faith in G-d, and explained that more spending generates more income. The Rebbe included a donation together with this letter.

5714-1954, after expounding on the verse “Tzama lecha nafshi — My soul thirsts for You...,” the Rebbe asked the chasidim to sing the song attributed to the Alter Rebbe with these words. Members of the crowd began to sing various songs on this verse but they were not what the Rebbe had in mind. When it became clear that nobody present was familiar with the Alter Rebbe’s tune, the Rebbe began to teach it. It took time for the chasidim to catch on, and the Rebbe sang it over and over until they learned it properly.
