A Play with a Purpose

Rebbe Responsa | June 25, 2025

Pleased to hear of the Yud-Tes Kislev play / the purpose of remembering the history of such events is to strengthen our daily conduct / special lesson for children

By the Grace of G-d
17th of Kislev, 5730
Brooklyn, N. Y.
Mr. Chaim Aron Block
1059 William Street
London, Ont.

Sholom uBrocho:

I was pleased to receive your letter, in which you wrote that you are putting on a play in honor of Yud Tes Kislev.

This gives me the assurance that you know the history of this important day, and realize also that the main thing in remembering events that happened to Gedolei Yisroel is to strengthen the daily conduct in a way that would please them. This applies to both old and young, but it is well known that the Alter Rebbe, whose Chag Hageulo we observe on the 19th of Kislev, gave special attention to the Chinuch of the young.

May G-d grant that you should be an inspiring example to all your friends and a source of true Yiddish and Chasidish Nachas to your parents.

With the blessing of Chag Hageulo and bright Chanukah days
M. Schneerson
