ד' אחד ושמו אחד – Hashem Echad u’Shemo Echad. Hashem is One and His Name is One.
In the End of Days, when unvarnished truth will be revealed, all will see that what we have perceived as good and bad will be viewed through the lens of truth as pure good. Thus, both good and bad will be unified under Hashem’s Name as One. A well-known analogy from the Chafetz Chaim is worth repeating. A visitor came to a grand synagogue and admired its majestic beauty and order. When the Torah was taken out and the reading began, however, the shul was far from orderly. Aliyas were handed indiscriminately without addressing the status of the person being called up to the Torah.
After davening, he inquired of the gabbai, sexton, for an explanation of the aliyos, why people were called up haphazardly. The gabbai explained, “My friend, you are passing by; you were not here last week and will probably not be here next week. What appears to you as chaos is actually meticulously planned, purposeful and meaningful. Last week, shishi (normally an aliyah given to one who is distinguished) was given to the president. This week, the aliyah went to someone whose son is getting married this week. The other aliyos went to individuals who had specific chiyuvim, reasons, for an aliyah: a bris, a yahrzeit. In order to make a reasonable deduction, one must see the larger, whole picture.
