Making a Dwelling for Hashem in Golus

As is explained in Tanya: Mitzva comes from the word Tzavta meaning "joining," or "attachment." Thus through performing a Mitzva one becomes joined with Hakodosh Boruch Hu who commands us to perform these Mitzvos. And this is how a dwelling for Hashem Blessed be He is built.

It can even be said that this is also an explanation for the expressions of a temporary dwelling and of a permanent dwelling. For seemingly a temporary place can be called an ‘Ohel’ but a permanent place should really be called a dwelling or a house. However this emphasises that even in ‘Golus’ which is a temporary arrangement there is also a dwelling, because we can make a dwelling for Hashem blessed be He even in the lower realm.

Similarly, there is a concept of permanency with regards to an Ohel because the Mishkon itself was called an Ohel and the Torah still says וְׁשָכַנְׁתִי בְׁתוֹכָם “And I will dwell in their midst” which implies a permanent arrangement.
