Utilizing Information to Help Others

Havineini | June 25, 2025

And this happens every day. When a person utilizes information about other people only in order to daven for him, not, chas v’shalom, to tell others about it... if he pays attention to the needs of others, not to say, “See, I am not the only one who struggles...,” but he pours out his heart to Hashem on that person’s behalf—can we imagine how much good this can bring for himself and to the other person?

As terrible as the negative side is (when we utilize information about others to gossip about them or to become jealous of them), how much more powerful is the positive side (when we utilize information to daven for others and to help them in any conceivable way).

If a person knows that his brother has less money than he does, instead of feeling better about his situation, he sends him money for Yom Tov in a modest manner, with no one knowing about it, not waiting to be asked—this is the right sort of interest in another’s plight.

An ehrliche Yid conceals his successes, and when he notices a flaw in another person he stops to think, “How can I help him.” In this way, he fulfills his mission, and his friend fulfills his mission, and the world becomes a place worthy of השכינה השראת.

This is what Bilaam saw and exclaimed, “How good are your tents, O Yaakov.” This is the essence of a Yid. This is the essence of brotherly love that is so unique to Klal Yisrael. When he saw how their doorways were positioned, he said, “This is truly a place worthy of השכינה השראת and all the blessings.”
