If a Ben Chutz Laaretz Davens In a Minyan of Bnei Eretz Yisroel on Yom Tov Sheini Is It Considered Tefillah BeTzibbur

Based on the above, in our case the bochur wouldn’t be obligated to leave Yeshivah to go and daven in a minyan in a different city. However, the question is, if we find in the poskim that even though he isn’t obligated, perhaps he should still be stringent and go to a place where he will be able to hear krias haTorah and daven with a minyan Yom Tov Sheini davening?

Regarding Maariv and Mincha on Yom Tov Sheini, R’ Shlomah Zalman Auerbach and R’ Elyashiv both say that even if a Ben Chutz La’aretz davens in a minyan of Bnei Eretz Yisroel it is still considered tefillah betzibbur (cited in the sefer Yom Tov Sheini KeHilchosah, Perek 9, sif 6). However, the question is what he should do regarding Shacharis. Bnei Eretz Yisroel wear tefillin, so how can a Ben Chutz La’aretz daven with them and not wear tefillin, perhaps it’s even a problem of “lo sisgodadu” (going against the minhag). Regarding Chol HaMo’ed (end of siman 31) the Mishnah Berurah brings that if one doesn’t wear tefillin on Chol HaMo’ed, and he davens in a shul which does, he should wear tefillin without a berachah. However, when it comes to Yom Tov Sheini when tefillin are muktzeh and perhaps even a problem of “baal tosif” [adding on to mitzvos] wearing them is not an option, and davening in a minyan without them is “lo sisgodadu”.
