Shavuos and Moshiach

לע"נ מרת חנה מרים ב"ר משה ע"ה שפוץ לע"נ מושקא ע"ה ב"ר יהושע דוד שפוץ שיחי‘

Shavuos, the festival of the giving of the Torah, is deeply connected to the coming of Moshiach. The Midrash teaches that at the time of Matan Torah, the world reached a state of perfection, similar to what will be in the days of Moshiach. The giving of the Torah was a foretaste of the ultimate redemption, when the world will be filled with the knowledge of Hashem as the waters cover the sea.

On Shavuos, we read the Aseres Hadibros, the Ten Commandments, which were given amidst thunder and lightning, revealing Hashem’s presence to all. This revelation will be fully realized in the era of Moshiach, when all flesh will see the glory of Hashem together.

The Connection to Moshiach

Our Sages explain that the Torah was given in the third month (Sivan), to the third people (the Jewish nation, who are called a threefold people), through the third-born (Moshe Rabbeinu), on the third day of preparation. The number three represents harmony and unity, which are the hallmarks of the Messianic era.

Furthermore, the Zohar states that the Torah is the key to redemption. By studying Torah and fulfilling its mitzvos, we hasten the coming of Moshiach. Every year on Shavuos, we renew our acceptance of the Torah and strengthen our connection to Hashem, bringing the world closer to its ultimate purpose.

Practical Lessons

As we celebrate Shavuos, let us remember that our actions have cosmic significance. By increasing in Torah study and mitzvos, especially in the areas of ahavas Yisroel and unity, we prepare ourselves and the world for the coming of Moshiach. May we merit to receive the Torah anew this Shavuos, together with the complete and final redemption.
