There was a story with a baal koreh who davened in the neitz minyan on Shavuos morning, and due to being up all night and very tired, he accidentally recited three berachos before reading Megillas Rus. The berachah of על מקרא מגילה, the berachah of שעשה נסים and the berachah of שהחיינו, instead of just the two required berachos על מקרא מגילה and שהחיינו.
The question is, is the berachah of שעשה נסים considered a berachah levatolah [blessing in vain] and considered an interruption between the berachah of על מקרא מגילה and starting to read the Megillah, and does the baal koreh need to make the berachah of על מקרא מגילה again, or is it perhaps ok?
Does It Make Sense to Recite the Berachah of שעשה נסים on Shavuos
אמר דוד חייב אני להודות לך על נסים שעשית עם זקני ועם זקנתי בלילה ,לכך חצות לילה אקים להודות לך – “’At midnight I get up to praise you’ Dovid said: I am obligated to get up in the middle of the night and thank You (the Ribbono Shel Olam) for what You did to my grandfather and grandmother at midnight. What episode is this referring too? The story with Naomi and Rus HaMoaviah her daughter-in-law ... Dovid said: I am obligated to thank You for the miracles that You did with my grandfather and grandmother at night, therefore, at midnight I get up to thank you.” It’s clear from the Medrash that Dovid HaMelech said that he had to thank Hashem for the many miracles that were performed on that night with Rus, Naomi and Boaz.
The Sefer Avos LaRosh (son of R’ Chaim Pilagi – M’aareches Yoreh Deah, ois 48, pg. 77) cites various Midrashim from Chazal about the incredible miracles that happened by Maamad Har Sinai, and how the neshomas [souls] of Klal Yisroel left them, and how Hashem brought them back to life. He adds: On Shavuos when making the berachah of, המחזיר נשמות לפגרים מתים , and the berachah מחיה המתים , one should have in mind that this is what our forefathers said at Maamad Har Sinai, and one should think in his heart, that:שעשה נסים לאבותינו בימים ההם ובזמן הזה – Hashem performed miracles for our forefathers and us at this time.
It's clear that on Shavuos there is room to thank Hashem for the miracles and wonders that he performed for our forefathers at this time, and for us nowadays, and there is also room for praising Hashem for all the miracles that happened in Megillas Rus, therefore, perhaps there is room to say that if the baal koreh recited the berachah of שעשה נסים it is not considered a berachah levatolah, and consequently not an interruption.
However, R’ Yitzchok Zilberstein (Chashukei Chemed, Kiddushin 33a) writes: Since Chazal never fixed that this berachah should be recited on Shavuos, even if it doesn’t seem in vain, it is considered an interruption. Even according to the poskim who hold that if one makes a birchas hashvach [blessing which comes to offer praise about the Ribbono Shel Olam] it’s not considered levatolah, that’s only if they intend to make the berachah they are making. However, in our case of the baal koreh who was very tired, he wasn’t intending to make the berachah, therefore, we need to be concerned that it’s a berachah levatolah. However, even if the baal koreh needs to repeat making berachos on the Megillah, he only needs to repeat the berachah of על מקרא מגילה , however, he doesn’t need to repeat the berachah of she’hechayanu.
