What Four Halachos Do We Learn from Megillas Rus

למודי משה | May 29, 2025

1) The laws of the convert and specifically the halachah of “amoni, v’lo amonis” – “that while a male member of the people of Amon is not permitted to enter into the Jewish nation (Devorim 23:4); a female, like Rus, may in fact enter the Jewish nation (Kesubos 7b).

2) The law of “kinyan sudar” – “acquisition through the transfer of an article of value.” This concept has its origins in Rus (4:7), where Boaz removed his shoe and gave it to the “go’el” – “redeemer” to make a kinyan.

3) When Boaz greets his workers by saying “Hashem imachem” (2:4), the Gemara (Berachos 54a) learns that people should greet each other with the name of Hashem.

4) When Boaz assembled 10 elders to be present at his marriage to Rus. The Gemara in Kesubos deduces that the sheva berachos at a wedding need a minyan of men. (Torah IQ)
