With reference to the contents of your letter, specifically in regard to the proposal of a post that would require your giving up your present Rabbanut, etc. - it is, of course, difficult to give definitive advice in a situation overseas, especially as you have knowledgeable friends locally, who are closer to the situation. However, since by Hashgocho Protis, you asked for my advice, I cannot see myself free to evade an answer.
In my opinion, I see no necessity at all why you should have to give up the Rabbanut in order to achieve the main objectives of the proposed post. At most, it may require your relinquishing certain time-consuming functions, which could be carried out by someone else, while your personal guidance and spiritual leadership, wherein you have won the complete trust and confidence of the membership, cannot be easily substituted.
On the other hand, since you state that your acceptance of the post would enable you to continue teaching at Jews' College and help fortify the future of this institution, which certainly is of great importance to British Jewry, the proposal merits priority consideration.
May HaShem, whose benevolent Hashgocho Protis extends to everyone, lead you in the way that is truly good for you in all respects.
To conclude on a timely matter in connection with the approaching Hilulo of my father-in-law of saintly memory on Yud Shevat, may his Mesiras Nefesh for everything that had to do with Torah Chinuch, continue to inspire every one of us, especially those who are involved with Chinuch as teachers, educators and Rabbanim, in the spirit of the Baal Hahilulo, with an ever growing measure of commitment and dedication.
Wishing you Hatzlocho in all above,
With blessing,
M. Schneerson
