On the first anniversary of יציאת מצרים, Hashem instructed בני ישראל to bring a קרבן פסח.
There were people who were טמא מת and were not allowed to bring the קרבן.
They said to _____:
We are טמא מת. Why should we be excluded from bringing this קרבן for Hashem with the rest of בני ישראל?
Question:
They themselves began their words to משה by stating that they were טמא, and people who are טמא cannot partake of a קרבן!
Why did they even think that they _________ be allowed to bring a קרבן?
Answer:
At this point, they thought there was a מצוה to שחט a lamb on the 14th of ניסן and eat it that night with מצה and מרור. Just as they had this ______ one year earlier in מצרים.
But they did not realize that now it was actually a קרבן.
It was only in response to their request that משה informed them that already now this was actually a ______, so they could not partake of it if they were טמא.
Further discussion:
How did they hope to partake of it, even though it was a קרבן and they were טמא?
(See אותיות ו-ז in the שיחה )
Until this point the תורה uses the term את הפסח, ולא יכלו ויעשו הפסח, לעשות אותו, תעשו בנ"י את הפסח, ויעשו לעשות הפסח. It is only in פרק ט פסוק ז, when they complained, that we find the language of הקריב את קרבן.
