A disconnect that was worth it

טיב הקהילה English | June 27, 2025

On Erev Pesach, every home in Israel needs to purchase a lot, especially in a family blessed with children. I made a purchase through a chesed organization that makes a weekly discounted sale. The order is made over the phone and on the appointed day we come to pick up the order from the pick-up point, on my way home by bus, I took advantage to make a purchase for Pesach. It took a long time for me to finish the order, and just as I finished entering my credit card details and I was praying and anxious that I would be able to pay with this card and that I wouldn't hear a refusal, the call was disconnected. I no longer had the energy to start over because I had to get off at my station. It wasn't long before I received a call from the charitable organization informing me that the purchase had been approved, and that I had to pick up the order on time on the set date.

I was shocked, "I did not pay?!" The gentleman on the other end of the line explained to me that they had just received a call from a donor interested in paying the Pesach purchase of a family with no means. “We just saw that you made a complete order, but at the end at the checkout stage you hung up, so we immediately realized that you had no way to pay, so the donor paid for you!!”
