A Practical Lesson

Pirkei Avos of the Week | June 27, 2025

A Practical Lesson

The Talmud teaches us that "even Jews who are sinners are filled with Mitzvos as a pomegranate is filled with seeds." We are different and therefore focus on a different type of Mitzvah. Some focus on Torah study, Mitzvos between an individual and Hashem, and others on Mitzvos that govern our relationship. We should all learn from this Mishnah the importance of interpersonal Mitzvos. May we learn from our forefather Avrohom to spread G-dliness to those we encounter by drawing them close to ourselves.

(Adapted from a talk given on Shabbos Parshas Bechukosai, 5722)

10. See Talmud Chagigah 27, a.
11. We are, however, obligated to perform all Mitzvos. The only difference is which Mitzvos we emphasize.
