The holy Jewish soul starts to come into the body at the circumcision of a boy, and for a girl at her naming. A Jewish baby girl is named at the reading of the Torah. The Torah is read every Monday, Thursday, and Shabbos, as well as on other special days. A baby girl should be named at the next reading of the Torah, rather than waiting until Shabbos.
When you have a new baby girl, please consult your Orthodox rabbi about when the next Torah reading will be.
