Dancing with Prikas Ol vs Kabolas Ol

Cyber Farbrengens | June 27, 2025

The Rebbe Rashab once observed two of the Tmimim dancing together on Simchas Torah. He commented about one of them “He is dancing with kabolas ol”, and about the other ‘and he is dancing with prikas ol”.

Both were extremely Chassidishe bochurim, who went on to become famous, respected and celebrated Chassidim. Nevertheless, according to their level, the Rebbe Rashab found one of them to be dancing with prikas ol. It was in a subtle way, but, nonetheless, for him it was considered prikas ol.

For ourselves, we are dealing with something much less subtle (at least for most of us), but the basic message is the same: You may be celebrating Simchas Torah with the greatest shturem. But, if you are not focused in the right way, you may be dancing with prikas ol. And a chosid needs to dance (and sing and farbreng etc.) with kabolas ol.

Because, if you are rejoicing with prikas ol, then ch”v the Eibishter is absent. And if you are dancing with kabolas ol, then you are dancing with the Eibishter.

One year (in the very early years of the Rebbe’s nesius), during hakafos, the Rebbe was pulling people into the circle. One of those that the Rebbe pulled in was an American balebos. After hakafos the Rebbe apologized to the balebos (for dragging him in).

The balebos waved off the Rebbe’s apology, saying: “On the contrary, it was a great honor for me to dance with the Rebbe”. To which the Rebbe responded: “Tantzen darf men tantzen mit der Eibishter!” [You should be dancing with the Alm-ighty].
