Choosing Life

Say the tzaddikim, after a person understands this, it isn’t sufficient for him to hear a derashah about it once a year around Parashas Beshalach—but he must battle this darkness every single day so he will internalize the recognition that everything that happens in the course of nature is really a miracle.

Similarly, we learn in the Zera Kodesh by the Ropshitzer Rav (Parashas Chukas), and in the Kedushas Levi (Parashas Beshalach) that the Ribbono shel Olam has obscured and hidden His miracles within nature—so that people won’t become too awed by them—to a very precise degree: If the darkness and hiddenness were too weak, a person wouldn’t have bechirah, free choice, in This World, for the Presence of Hashem would be constantly revealed for all to see. At every moment he would stand in awe of the miracles and the exaltedness of the Ribbono shel Olam.

At the same time, if the hiddenness were absolute, a person wouldn’t be able to recognize the Ribbono shel Olam at all through the haze of nature.

Now that the miracles have been hidden within nature to a precise degree, there is an avodah for the person to reveal the miracles and recognize them in his everyday life.
