Mevushal, Non-Mevushal
34. Non-mevushal. In the previous issue (371), we elaborated on the status of mevushal wine for Kiddush. We mentioned the machlokes whether one can be yotzei with it; whilst most poskim hold it can be used for Kiddush (ibid., 25); some poskim are machmir and hold it should not be used (24); and some people are extra careful and specifically choose non-mevushal wine to satisfy all opinions (27, ע''פ המ''ב סי' ער''ב סקכ''ג ). However, doing so requires them to be particularly careful about non-Jewish contact, as mentioned.
35. Mevushal. Some people are extra careful about the potential for non-Jewish contact, so they make sure to only have mevushal wine in the house. They rely on the majority of poskim, who hold mevushal wine can be used for Kiddush l’chatchila.
36. Pasteurized. There is a slight benefit to using pasteurized wine, as some hold that even according to the ones who are machmir not to make Kiddush on mevushal wine, one can be meikel and make Kiddush on pasteurized wine (Issue 371, par. 30). However, the drawback is that some hold pasteurization does not protect wine from non-Jewish contact (above, 24).
