5733-1973, President of Israel, Zalman Shazar, visited the Rebbe at 770. As was his custom during each visit, Shazar brought unpublished manuscripts of chasidic teachings to the Rebbe. The Rebbe, in return, gifted Shazar with new books from Chabad’s publishing house. After the Rebbe introduced Shazar to a number of Chabad leaders from around the world, everyone — reporters, dignitaries, and close chasidim — was sent out of the room. The two spoke privately for five hours.
