We Are Not Abandoned

Rebbe Responsa | January 30, 2026

We Are Not Abandoned
The Rebbe cares for his flock, even now; he takes an interest in those who identify with his work and intercedes on their behalf

By the Grace of G-d
16th of Shevat, 5739
Brooklyn, N.Y.
Mrs. Ruth Benjamin

P. O. Box 9552
Johannesburg 2000
South Africa
Blessing and Greeting:

This is to acknowledge receipt of your recent correspondence. May G-d grant the fulfillment of your heart's desires for good. Especially as we have now entered the month of Shevat, highlighted by the Yahrzeit-Hilulo of my father-in-law of saintly memory. For, like all true Shepherds of our Jewish people, who continue to care for their flock also after returning to Heaven, the Baal-Hilulo continues to take a personal interest in each and all who are identified with his sacred work, institutions, and teachings, and he intercedes and prays for them On High. Thus, you and yours are included in his prayers and blessings.

May the inspiration of this day stimulate all your activities to spread and strengthen Yiddishkeit in a growing measure, thereby widening the channels to receive G-d's blessings likewise in a growing measure, both materially and spiritually.

With blessing,
M. Schneerson

Dr. Ruth Benjamin (d. 5783) was a South African–born clinical psychologist and the author of more than forty popular works. In her twenties, she converted to Judaism and developed a deep personal connection with the Rebbe, who guided her journey toward religious observance and counseled her on both personal and professional matters. For additional letters addressed to her, see letter dated Rosh Chodesh Adar 5732 on the Rebbe Responsa app, and as referenced there. For an interview with Dr. Benjamin discussing her relationship with the Rebbe, see “The Power of the Pen” in My Story, vol. 1 (Jewish Educational Media, 2017), pp. 243–248.
