At first, for an entire year, the Rebbe did not accept the leadership of Chabad.
On Motzei Yud Shvat 5711, the Rebbe farbrenged, marking the first yom hillulah of the Frierdiker Rebbe.
About an hour into the farbrengen, Harav Hachossid Reb Avraham Sender Nemtzov, an elder and fervent chossid, stood up and announced: “The oilam is thirsty for a maamar Chassidus from the Rebbe. The Rebbe should say a maamar Chassidus!” A maamar symbolizes a formal recognition of accepting the nesius, since only a rebbe says maamarim [of his own.] --
At 10:40 PM, the Rebbe began the maamar “Bosi leGani...” In this maamar, the Rebbe explains the task of the seventh generation of Chabad to spread Yiddishkeit throughout the entire world, making a dira betachtonim – making this world a a dwelling place again for Hashem, in which the Shechina would be drawn down to this world, tasking this generation to bring the Geulah, the ultimate dira betachtonim.
The maamar was said in three parts. During the two breaks, the Rebbe instructed to sing niggunim of our Rebbeim. Right after the first part, Harav Nemtzov jumped on the table with great joy and announced: “Chassidim, repeat after me! We must make the brachah ‘Shehecheyanu v’kiyimanu v’higiyanu lizman hazeh,’ that Hashem helped us that we have a Rebbe!” He made the brachah Shecheyanu...and everyone answered amein. The Rebbe smiled and asked him to get off the table.
