And so, just as Avraham wanted, Sarah was buried in the Me'arat HaMachpaila. All of the important people came to pay their respects to Sarah.

Sarah wasn't the first to be buried there (remember, Adam and Chava were there, too) - and she would not be the last. Later, when Avraham passed away, he would be buried there. Plus two more righteous husband-and-wife pairs: Yitzchak and Rivkah, and Yaakov and Leah.

And that is why it is called Me'arat HaMachpaila - the Cave of the Doubles.

Throughout our history, the Me'arat HaMachpaila has remained one of our holiest sites, where Jews from all over the world come to pray.
