Avraham was growing old, and Yitzchak wasn't getting any younger, either! He was 40 years old, and he wasn't yet married.
So Avraham called his trusty servant, Eliezer, and said to him: "We must find a wife for Yitzchak. But I don't want him to marry a Canaanite girl. They are just too wild and they have no manners at all. Instead I want you to go to Charan, where my family lives. Even though they are idol-worshippers, I know that they are kind. I'm sure you can find a nice girl there for my son."
Eliezer was given loads of presents for this important mission. He headed out with a caravan of ten camels carrying jewelry and gifts. He arrived in Charan just three hours later - an amazing miracle! The trip would usually take many days, but HaShem shortened Eliezer's journey to help speed along the matchmaking process.
Eliezer saw a well at the edge of the town. This would be the best place to meet the girls of Charan; it was evening, and the young girls would soon be coming to draw water to bring home.
