Many Jewish generations were descended from a holy Shabbos in Kerestir.
It was a normal Shabbos morning when a car stopped in front of the shul in Kerestir and when two people emerged, there was panic in shul what could they be up to! They walked into the shul and asked where the wonder Rabbi was? A brave Chosid approached them and asked what they wanted and who they were. They answered that they were from Budapest, and they came here because they needed to consult the Rabbi about something important. When they said they were Jews, the Chosid asked why did they travel on Shabbos? They replied that they knew nothing about Judaism, and that one is not allowed to drive on Shabbos!
The Chosid asked them why they came today. They replied that they had plundered in their business and that a tough court case awaited them. A relative of theirs advised them to come to Kerestir because the Wonder Rebbi of Kerestir could help them. Since they are busy all week, they came today, and they plan to go back after they receive a blessing from the Rebbe. They didn't mean to scare the crowd in the Shul!
The Chosid told them to wait there and that he would ask the Rebbi what he could do to help them, and the Chosid went to Rav Yeshay'le and told him what had happened and that they were Jews who desecrated the Sabbos, and they plan to still go home today! Rav Yeshay'le looked at them sternly and called his gabbei, Reb Elimelech Fishman, to tell them that the Rebbe was now going to pray, and after the prayer, the Rebbe would speak with them. In the meantime, he should give them a room at the end of the building, give them food, and let them rest from the long journey.
After davening, the Rebbe entered their room and said "Good Shabbos" and told them that now he must go sit with the guests and eat with them, and after eating he will talk to them and try to help them. They understood and said they would wait. Meanwhile, Rav Yeshay'le went to the shul and sat up front with the guests at the shabbos meal. The meal took a long time as Rav Yeshay'le told stories and the singing. The Budapest Jews did not have patience to sit in the room, so they entered the shul. They were moved at the tables covered with lavish white tablecloths, and the waiters were bringing delicious food, and all the beautiful songs, they also saw the Rebbe sitting at the head table like a king. This made a strong impression on them, and they decided to sit down at an empty table. The waiters served them, and they ate together. The Budapest Jews were already connected and forgot that they wanted to leave home.
Meanwhile, Rav Yeshay'le prolonged the seuda until it was already time to pray Mincha. After the crowd bentched Rav Yeshay'le sent the gabbai to tell Budapest Jews that it was late anyway and the Rebbe would receive them after praying Maariv. The Jews were already warmed by what they had seen so far and replied that they would stay in Shul until after Maariv!
Rav Yeshay'le was pleased with their answer. After Maariv, Rav Yeshay'le made Havdalah, and an inner spiritual light was lit in the Budapest Jews. The spark of Judaism awoke in them from such an exalted Shabbos, and they anxiously waited for the Rebbe to talk to them.
Finally, the Rebbe sent for them, and they came into the Rebbe's room, and the Rebbe noticed the change in them, stuck out his hand, and gave each a warm Shalom Aleichem! This enlightened those Yidden, and the Rebbe asked why they came. They answered that they had messed up in business and a difficult court case awaited them. Rav Yeshay'le listened intensely to them and said he apologizes for not being able to receive them sooner. They answered that, on the contrary, they enjoyed being in Shul with all the guests, and it was an uplifting experience. Rav Yeshay'le explained to them what it says in the Torah that one should work six days and on the Shabbos one must rest from doing any work and explained several basic laws of the Shabbos. The Jews swallowed everything with great thirst and replied that they did not know anything about Shabbos at all!
Rav Yeshay'le promised them that if they accept to observe Shabbos, they will be acquitted of all charges. They shook the Rebbe’s hand and promised. The Rebbe blessed them, and they went home. The day of court arrived, and miraculously, the judge dismissed all the charges against them, and they were free to go!
The Budapest Jews began to learn about Judaism and the Jewish laws from kind hearted Jews and became observant, and eventually became Chassidim of Rav Yeshay'le. They married and raised beautiful Jewish generations in the merit of that one Shabbos in Kerestir!
