The Chofetz Chaim, zt”l, compared the hardships of life to goldminers. These people pan through dirt and mud, break through heavy rocks, and become covered in black mud, yet despite what they endure they’re extremely happy to do so because gold is so valuable. They don’t care if people mock their appearance, because their earnings are far more valuable.
The same applies to people who experience difficulties in life. They may appear black and work hard, but they aren’t upset, because they know that their earnings are far more valuable.
