5736–1975, during a farbrengen, the Rebbe admonished a large Jewish organizational network, which receives funding from Washington. They hold an annual convention where “they decide who will be chairman and who will be secretary, and they also have speeches on Torah ideas. But when I ask, ‘Why is there nothing practical on the agenda? Discuss family purity — that every city must have a mikveh, or kosher food, or education, etc.’ they reply that the schedule is already full... These issues are worth moving heaven and earth for — certainly the schedule can be adjusted!” The Rebbe added that he had spoken directly to the leaders countless times to convey that “a convention must have actual results,” but was only given a variety of excuses. “Therefore, the only remaining option is to make a commotion. Perhaps this will have an impact on at least one of their conventions.”
