Working On Bitachon Is More Important Than The Actual Yeshua

Bitachon Weekly | December 31, 2025

Perhaps Avraham Avinu felt that since he had to spend the lion’s share of his life having Bitachon to someday having children, he understood this as a message that the Ikar in his life is Bitachon! Indeed, the main reason the Torah was given was that we should acquire Middas HaBitachon. (Gr”a).

Notice how Avraham Avinu twice built a Mizbeach when he was told by Hashem that he’ll have children. But when Yitzchok was finally born, no Mizbeach and no: האְָּׂוְָּׂחְֲּתְַּש ְּהְִּּ (bowing)! We notice a striking similarity between Eliezer and Avraham Avinu; they are always thanking and building Mizbeach’s as a gesture thankfulness BEFORE the final Yeshua. This sounds very similar to all the: דַ י ינוְּּ Dayeinu’s of Haggadah Shel Pesach, for example: אִּ לוְְּּּ ָׂ נוְּּ לִּ פ נ יְּ הַ רְּ סִּ ינַי,ְּ ו ל ֹּאְּ נָׂתַ ןְּ לָׂ נוְּּ א תְּ הַ תוֹרָׂ הְּ דַ י נוּק ר ב If He would have brought us before Har Sinai, even without giving us the Torah, Dayeinu, it would have been enough. And even if: ל ֹּאְְּּ קָׂ רַ עְּלָׂ נוְּּא תְּהַ יָׂםְּדַ י נוּ He would not have split for us the sea!

A Yid thanks for every stage of goodness, and for every good sign of a Yeshua, even if it didn’t happen yet! And in the Haggadah Shel Pesach, we say: דַ י ינוּ Dayeinu not because we have Bitachon in a finalized Yeshua. We say: דַ י ינוְּּ Dayeinu (it would have been enough) without getting the completion of what we want. We are happy with the unfinished present.

These are major Yesodos. This is the opposite of “impatience” which caused the #1 Chet HaEigel. We enjoy every moment, instead of worrying about the future. Unfortunately, despite the fact that many of us are happy with our Bitachon in a good future, we still have plenty of worry mixed into our Bitachon. Perhaps this is why so many “Baalei Bitachon” don’t succeed.

Building a Mizbeach or being: חְַּתְַּש ְּמְִּּו הְּ (bowing) shows a major satisfaction with the present situation. You are doing a positive “action”, and not just “saying” thank-you. In Novardok and in Brisk they held that working on Bitachon is much better than actually getting what you want. The Alter Zatzal once cried when he got his desire, since now there is nothing sweeter and more delicious than being Osek (involved) in the Mitzva of Bitachon! Here is the story:
