Run to a Mitzvah or Flee from an Aveirah:

The Way of Emunah | June 14, 2026
We actually learn two forms of zerizus from this Parshah to emulate Avrohom Avinu and hurry towards a mitzvah by waking up early to serve Hashem, and, on the other hand, to not be like Bilaam, who woke early to hurry to commit a sin; rather, we must learn to flee from aveiros. This is as is stated in the Mishnah (Avos 4:2): "Run to a mitzvah... and flee from an aveirah." It is related that Rav Yaakov Dovid of Amshinov zy"a would always walk very quickly. He once met Rav Yechezkel of Kuzmir zy"a in Warsaw, who asked him why he walked so fast. He replied, “A Jew must always be running. One must run to mitzvos and away from aveiros!"
