and Bilaam the son of Beor they slew with the sword (31:8). In Parshas Mattos the Targum Yonason says as follows: [Hebrew/Aramaic text omitted for brevity but included in source]. We see from this Targum [Bamidbor 31:8] that Bilom was a long-time troublemaker to Klall Yisroel, as Lovon to Yaakov Avienu, so to in Pharaoh’s cabinet to say bad ideas on Klall Yisroel, to engage Amoleik to war with them. In the evil plot of Bolok, and then with the Bnos Midyon of which 24,000 of Klall Yisroel died. And so, Pinchos killed Billom.
The Yetzer Hora (evil inclination) comes every generation in a different garb. We must realize it is the same root in a different disguise.
