Rav Shimshon Raphael Hirsch - (1808-1888), Germany; Intellectual founder of the Torah im Derech Eretz school of contemporary Orthodox Judaism. Rabbi in Oldenburg, Emden; Chief rabbi of Moravia. From 1851 until his death, Hirsch led the secessionist Orthodox community in Frankfurt am Main. Vocal opponent of Reform Judaism, early forms of Conservative Judaism, and Zionism.
