Greeting and Blessing:
I received your letter of the 19th of Sivan with some delay.
I note your plans for the summer, but I hope that although the school will be closed during the summer vacation, you have made plans for remaining in contact with the students throughout the summer months, by correspondence, etc. For, obviously, if children are left alone for two months without being reminded about their studies and conduct, there is not only the loss of the immediate benefit, but also the difficulty of returning to the school routine as smoothly as possible. If in past generations there was no room for such serious concern about the children during their vacation time, inasmuch as the parents could be relied upon to give them proper attention, and the general conditions both at home and outside were more favorable, it is quite different nowadays. I am sure it is not necessary for me to elaborate.
I trust that if no specific plans have been made about getting in contact with the children during the summer, It is still possible to do so, since their addresses are no doubt on file and it would be possible to write to every child directly, which will be greatly appreciated by the children. When writing to them they should be reminded about such matters as the Three Weeks, special observance of Rosh Chodesh, revision of their studies, etc. Needless to say, the best thing would have been to have a day camp, but if this has not been done, it may be difficult to arrange one at this time. On the other hand, there might still be a possibility to do so for the second period of the summer. I hope you will consult with the Administration, and putting all heads together come up with some fruitful program for the benefit of the children and the school.
Hoping to hear good news from you,
With blessing,
By Nissan Mindel
