Wine alludes to the intellectual satisfaction of Torah study; oil, to the prerequisite of humility in Torah study. Both must be stored in the same chamber—must be emphasized throughout Torah study. Eliezer ben Yaakov “forgot what the chamber was used for,” that is, his study was not focused on action. Abba Shaul explained that there must be a fusion of both values, with humility, our study is focused on tangible results in the performance of good deeds.
