In the desert, across the plain from the Red Sea, Moshe proclaimed these words to the whole Israeli population on that side of the Jordan.(1:1) According to Rashi: These are the exact words: Moshe lists all the locations where they offended Hashem in these lines because they are rebukes, therefore rather than directly addressing the transgressions, it just makes a suggestion about them by naming the locations out of respect for the Yidden. Many Chassidishe Seforim claim that the locations listed are actually words of Chizuk. On this Posuk, the Heilige Bais Aharon of Karlin offers a wealth of knowledge. He explains that the words o®¥C §x©I ©d x ¤a−¥r can have an interesting meaning.
x ¤a−¥r means to go through, o®¥C §x©I ©d can mean a fall in spirituality as d ̈Ci ¦x§I. When a person feels he is lacking in his serving Hashem, there are many solutions. x ¿ ̈A §c ¦O ©A means x ¥A ©c, talk to Hashem and pray that you shall be successful. Secondly, Ád ̈a ̈x£r « ̈A means sweetness as we say everyday L §z ̈xFz i ¥x §a ¦C z ¤` Epi ¥w l ¡` 'd ` ̈p a ¤x£r ©d §e Hashem should sweeten the Torah learning, which means to learn with sweetness and with ferver. However, the most important thing is sE ¹q l e n, know that Hashem is always in front of you, and is watching your every move. This is one meaning of sE ¹q l e n. However, there is another insight to sE ¹q l e n, If a person wants to get Chizuk and elevate himself in Serving Hashem, then do as the Gemarra Berachos 5a states: o ¤A o er §n ¦W i ¦A ©x x ©n ̈` ,` ̈n ̈g x ©A i ¦e ¥l i ¦A ©x x ©n ̈` ,r ©x ̈d x ¤v¥i l ©r a eh x ¤v¥i m ̈c ̈` fi ¦B §x©i m ̈l er §l :Wi ¦w ̈l One should always incite his good inclination against his evil inclination, i.e., that one must constantly struggle so that his evil inclination does not lead him to transgression... ,a ̈hEn eg §S ¦p If he subdues his evil inclination, excellent; if not, ."d ̈l ¤q EO c §e":x ©n ¡`¤P ¤W ,d ̈zi ¦O ©d m ei el x eM§f ¦i e` ̈l m ¦` §e he should remind himself of the day of death, whose silence is alluded to in the continuation of the verse: “And be still, Selah.” This says the Bais Aharon is the meaning sE ¹q l e n remember what is the end of a person, when one will give a complete accounting of his life, and nothing will be overlooked.
According to Akavia ben Mahalalel in Pirkei Avot 3:1, if you focus on these three points, you won't sin: Recognize your origins, your destination, and the person to whom you are expected to give an explanation and an account. Where did you originate from? from an odorous drop. Where are you heading, too? To a land of decaying organic matter, worms, and dust. And who are you supposed to account to and reckon with? In front of the Holy One, blessed be He, the King of Kings. This is the idea of sE ¹q l e n. In Eicha 3:38 it says ` ½¥v ¥z ` ́ l Æo ei §l¤r i³¦R ¦n z e −r ̈x ̈d From the mouth of Hashem does not come out anything bad. Everything is only for the good! All the rebukes in the Torah are blessings according to the Meforshim. Let us be Zoche to do the Mitzvohs with a Geshmak and sweetness, and welcome Moshiach with open hands. (Yehuda Z. Klitnick)
