The Segulah of the Haftorah

The Way of Emunah | December 31, 2025

The Segulah of the Haftorah:

My father, the Kretchnifer Rebbe shlita (Gilyon Divrei Torah Kretchnif-Yerushalaim, 5773), writes: On Shabbos Parshas Devarim, we read the Haftorah of “Chazon Yeshaya.” The Sefarim Hakedoshim (see Ohev Yisroel, Avodas Yisroel, etc.) say that Shabbos Chazon is on a higher level than any Shabbos of the year.

We can explain that we see from this Haftorah that even when Jews sin, Hashem keeps the door open for us to do teshuva. The Navi commanded the nation to remove the badness from their midst and to purify themselves from the filth. He tells them to learn from their mistakes and to rectify their ways.

Yeshaya Hanavi saw that the nation was not doing the correct things but he stressed to them that they could return to Hashem. He told them that even if their sins were stains “like crimson”, they could be “turned white like snow”.

This Haftorah contains the power to arouse people to do teshuva, which is why it is so lofty and holy. Hearing about how the Navi exhorted the people to change their ways and return to Hashem can lead us to do teshuva out of love and to become pure and holy. This is why it is said that Shabbos Chazon is on a higher level than all other Shabbosim of the year.
