Break the Dawn

Chassidic Story | December 10, 2025

In the Zohar in Parshas Lech Lecha, Rabbi Yosie says: "It is written, 'then your light will break forth as the dawn’." The time will come when the Holy One says to every human soul, “your light shall break forth as the morning, and your healing will spring forth speedily, you’re righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will surround you.’

The Rebbe’s father, Reb Levic explains that this quote is brought in this place, not just because it is the last Zohar for the parsha of Lech Lecha and the sages always tried to end on a note of encouragement and inspiration. But it is particularly pertinent here because in the previous Zohar Rabbi Shimon rebukes his students for revealing secrets of Torah without authorization. And this quote lets us know that in the future, particularly when Moshiach comes, these secret teachings will not remain hidden but will be open and revealed for everyone.

Our Rebbe explains the reason why the quote from the Zohar that “Your light will break forth as the dawn” tells us that the secrets of the Torah will be revealed when Moshiach comes. In another Zohar, about the guests who visit the Succa. It is Yacov who is being referenced in the quote, “Then shall your light break forth as the dawn”. And it is explained further by the Mittler Rebbe in the Siddur that the letters of the word which means “to break forth” are the same letters as the name Yacov. Therefore, Yakov is the one who is referenced in the quote,” your light will break forth like the dawn”.

The spiritual source of Yacov is the level of a surrounding light which cannot be contained in a vessel and therefore breaks out of containment. Therefore, Yacov symbolizes a light that breaks forth, like a barrel that splits when it is too full and the liquid breaks out thru the staves of the barrel. The object of the metaphor is that when Moshiach comes, the inner secrets of the Torah break forth and be completely revealed. They won’t be hidden secrets but will break forth in great revelation.

The continuation of the passage from Isaiah quoted here in the Zohar is that Hashem will satisfy us with pure clarity. The word which is translated as pure clarity is Tzachtzachos, a plural construct of the word, indicating not just one clarity but multiple clarity.

This hints to the fact that the revelation of knowledge of Divinity will be twofold, not only the secrets of Torah will be revealed, but more so, the “secrets of the secrets” of Torah will be revealed.

We can learn how these explanations are pertinent in our times from the “Holy Letters” of the Alter Rebbe, who tells us the wisdom of Kabala was hidden and secret in the times of the sages. Even hidden from the sages themselves except for special ones, and even they received it quietly and individually not in groups. But from the time of the Arizal it became allowed and even a Mitzvah to reveal this wisdom.

And especially after Chassidus was revealed by the Baal Shem Tov and the revelation of Chassidus Chabad by the Alter Rebbe. And even more so after the redemption of the 19th of the month of Kislev when the Alter Rebbe was released from jail, and the inner teachings of the Torah were revealed in a way where they could be understood clearly through wisdom, understanding and knowledge [Chachma, Bina and Daas] allowing these secrets to be internalized by us. So that we can serve Hashem through Torah and Mitzvas in a lively and enthusiastic way [like healthy food adds life and strength to the body].

Therefore particularly, in our days, when according to the Gomorrah we find ourselves in the last days of the exile, on the brink of the future redemption, it is vital that the inner level of the Torah be revealed in a way that the spring waters of Wisdom break forth. Not just the waters but the springs themselves will come and break through to the furthest location until there is no place further to reach. This is the preparation for the complete revelation of the hidden secrets of Torah, the Torah of Moshiach from the mouth of Moshiach.
