Faiga Stein-Daskal was born to Reb Chaim and Nechama Stein of Mittel-Visheva. Reb Chaim lived in great poverty. When he asked the Borsa Rebbe for a segulah for parnassah, the Rebbe told him, “Take care to make Havdalah on wine and not on whiskey.”
Nechama was the daughter of Reb Shmuel Fruchter, who came from an illustrious family, with a lineage that could be traced to Rav Tzvi Hirsh Horowitz (the father of the holy brothers Harav Pinchas of Frankfurt, author of Hafla’ah, and his brother Harav Shmelke of Nikolsberg), as well as further back to Harav Zerachyah Halevi, author of Hama’or, as well as other geonim and tzaddikim.
Nechama’s noble and refined behavior made it evident that she descended from holy people. She fasted often, and in addition to that, fasted each taanis tzibbur from the night before until the morning after — some thirty-six hours.
