Mikdash melech ir meluchah kumi tze’i mitoch ha’hafeicha
O’ Sanctuary of the King, royal city. Arise and depart from amid the upheaval.
Mikdash Melech is a reference to Knesses Yisrael, the congregation of Klal Yisrael, welcoming Shabbos, its kallah, bride. A mikdash is a holy place wherein the Shechinah’s Presence dwells. Melech is Melech Malchei ha’Melachim, Kings of Kings, Hashem. Klal YIsrael is the Mikdash of the Melech, with Hashem residing in our midst (if we are worthy). This verse highlights the profound connection that exists between Hashem, Shabbos and Klal Yisrael. The b’rachah of Shabbos brings blessings and sanctity to the world. This blessing spreads from Yerushalayim, the royal city, throughout the world. Hashem remains the center of its kedushah, which emanates throughout the world. This is especially germane in a world and society beset by ha’feichah, reversal/tumult/topsy turvy behavior. Kumi tze’i mitoch ha’hafeichah, Rise up and step out of the chaos, confusion and obscurity. We ask that the Melech bring about the redemption that will bring about an end to the world’s mixed up and blurred state.
