How can you best protect your child from the pain of life?

Increase your child’s resilience: don’t tell her that everything will always be all right. The fact is that things will often work out, but not ALWAYS - “lying” (not offering full disclosure) about something like that can leave your child feeling betrayed, abandoned and unprepared for the tough parts of life. Instead, acknowledge that things sometimes don’t go the way we want or pray for, and when that happens, it hurts. Let her know, too, that hurting helps the heart heal and that eventually, we recover and move forward. This, plus your personal model of moving forward from disappointment and loss, will help your child face life with courage and confidence.
