Practical Judaism Hakhel A Year of Gathering

Living Moshiach | December 31, 2025

This year is called a “Hakhel” year. Every seventh year is a “Shmitah” year, when we may not do agricultural work in the Land of Israel and debts are forgiven even outside the Land of Israel. The year after Shmitah is “Hakhel”. When the Beis Hamikdash (Holy Temple) exists, all the Jews – men, women and children – gather there on the holiday of Sukkos and listen to the king read from the Torah. The Rebbe King Moshiach Shlita says that even before we have the Beis Hamikdash again, we should use the Hakhel year to make gatherings of Jewish men, women and children (men and women seated separately) and speak words of Torah and do Mitzvos together. This Hakhel year is coming to its end; take advantage and make gatherings!
