Dedication in Lieu of Self-Sacrifice

Rebbe Responsa | June 27, 2025

By the Grace of G-d
16th of Kislev, 5734
Brooklyn, N.Y.

Blessing and Greeting:

I received your letter, and will remember you in prayer for the fulfillment of your heart's desires for good.

With regard to your question as to what should be your plans for the future, you should discuss this with friends Yirei Shomayin, who know you personally.

Since you surely know that the Mitzvo of V'Ohavto L'Reacho Komocho is a great principle of our Torah, I trust that you are doing all that is up to you to spread Yiddishkeit among those who come under the category of your "Reacho". There is the assurance that words coming from the heart enter the heart and are eventually effective, especially when coupled with a living example.

Now that we are about to observe Yud-Tes Kislev, followed by Chanukah, you surely know that the central point of these historic occasions is to spread the light of Torah and Mitzvoth, especially through Torah Chinuch, with real dedication and even self-sacrifice, if necessary. Dedication is always a necessary ingredient, all the more so when conditions fortunately do not demand self-sacrifice. May you do your utmost in all above, in a steadily growing measure, as we are reminded by the Chanukah lights which are kindled in steadily growing numbers from day to day.

Wishing you an inspiring Yud-Tes Kislev and a bright Chanukah,

With blessing
M. Schneerson
