Ruzhiner

Ruzhiner - Rabbi Yisroel Friedman of Ruzhin (1797-1851), Ukraine, Austria; Great-grandson of the Maggid of Mezritch, main disciple of the Baal Shem Tov. In 1838, was imprisoned by the Czar in Kiev and Kamenetz-Podolsk for almost two years. Was the head and spiritual leader of a large Chassidic following in Ukraine.
