All The People in Our Lives Are Just Messengers of Hashem

Bitachon Weekly | December 31, 2025

And we see Dovid’s constant thankfulness to Hashem (first, and then to Avigayil) for saving him from committing a murder. He says: ב רוּךְְְּּה'ְְּּאֲ שֶ רְּ ש ל ח ךְְּ ה יוֹםְּה זֶ הְְּּש"אְּכהְּלב Blessed should be Hashem who sent you (just like he says about Shim'i ben Gera: כ יְּה'ְּא מ רְּלוְֹּק ל לְְּּש"בְְְּּּטזְְּּי Hashem sent him to curse me). He gives Hashem credit for sending him a woman who saved him from sin, since all the people in his life are just: ש לוּח ים messengers of Hashem.

And then he says: וּב רוּךְְּט ע מ ךְְּוּב רוּכ הְּא ת ְְְּּּש"אְּכהְְּּ לג Blessed be your good sense, and blessed be you. Look how he thanks twice. And then again, he thanks: ח יְְּּה'ְְּּאֲ שֶ רְּ מ נ ע נ יְּ מ ה ר עְּ אֹ ת ךְְְּּ ש"אְּ כהְּ לד Baruch Hashem who prevented me from harming you. And when he hears about Naval’s death, again he says: ב רוּךְְְּּה'ְְּּר בְּאֶ תְְּּ ר יבְּחֶ ר פ ת יְּמ י דְּנ ב לְְּּש"אְּלבְּלט Baruch Hashem who took up my fight against Naval’s insults. Indeed, the composer of Tehilim is loaded with thankfulness in his daily life.

And Avigayil is always bowing down and falling at Dovid’s feet, and calling herself: אֲ מ תֶ ךָ your servant (I counted 7 times, and I counted 15 times that she called him: אֲ דֹנ יְּ my master). For good reason she was a Shidduch for Dovid. Similarly, we had Tamar ready to go into the fire, not to embarrass Yehuda. And Yehuda admitting in public: צ ד ק הְּמ מֶ נ י She (Tamar) is right!

Look at the Eidelkeit and kindness and nobility and humility of the thankful types. It is interesting to note that here it says: ע םְְּּ נ ב לְּ ו ל ֹאְּ ח כ םְְּּלבְּ ו an ingrateful (Naval) nation “without intelligence”, and in the Parsha of Dovid and Naval, Dovid vowed that he’d wipe out Naval’s house until there wouldn’t even be: מ ש ת יןְּ ב ק ירְְּּש"אְּ כהְּ כב anyone with “intelligence” left. (Targum Yonasan). Perhaps he was hinting that the ingrate Naval had no Sechel (intelligence).

This is an incentive to work on thankfulness, when we realize that thankfulness and Sechel go together.
