Hosafos: Additional Laws of Kaparos and Viduy

Chabad.org Luach | December 10, 2025

Kaparos

If possible, a separate chicken should be used for each person, a rooster for a male and a hen for a female. A pregnant woman should use three chickens: one rooster and two hens.

If this is not possible, one rooster may be used for a number of males and one hen for a number of females. If no chickens are available, kaparos may be performed with money.

Viduy

With regard to interrupting for devarim shebikdushah, viduy shares the laws of Elokai Netzor. (To elaborate: With Kedushah, you may interrupt for Kadosh, Boruch and Yimloch. You may interrupt for the amen of Hakel hakadosh and Shomei’a tefillah. With Modim, you may say the words Modim anachnu lach. With Kaddish, you may interrupt for Yehei Shmei Rabba and the amen of da’amiran be’alma.)

If you forgot to say viduy during Shemoneh Esrei, say it separately (while standing).
