As on Yom Kippur was the following story and on Erev Sukkos is the Yohrtzeit of the Kohznitzer Maggid it is appropriate to relate the following story. It tells us the greatness of Reb Shabsi, the father of the Kohznitzer Maggid and the Ruach HaKodesh he possessed.
Once in the town of Apte there was a Machlokes (quarrel) in the Shul on Yom Kippur to the extent that the laymen hit each other with their Machzorim. On Motzei Yom Kippur, peace already reigned in the Shul and the laymen Bentched each other as usual for a Good Year. They also approached the Tzadik, Reb Shabsi the bookbinder and quipped to him, “Your Tefillos were already accepted, as you have a lot of business to bind the torn Machzorim”. Reb Shabsi answered them, “I have gained with my Tefilos something greater than that, as we will give birth to a baby boy. And so it was, that year the Kohznitzer Maggid was born.
