Furthermore, our silence on the first day of Rosh Hashanah is an aspect of “dormita-sleep.” The sefarim hakadoshim explain that in order to elevate the Malchus of Kedushah, we must first “go to sleep” by letting go of our seichel and attaching ourselves to emunah. We have to be mevatel ourselves to Hashem with pure faith. Then, after we’ve strengthened our emunah, we “wake up” and receive new awareness when we hear the shofar blasts.
This tikkun relates to our power of speech as well, since speech is essentially the revelation of our seichel. It is through our words that we express the ideas that are in our minds. Thus, in order to rebuild our power of speech in a way that even our words that involve the material world can have purity and kedushah and reveal the Kingship of Hashem, the first thing we have to do is be silent. Just like we should let go of our seichel and not try to think too much, so too, we should limit our speech and concentrate on emunah.
