Issur to Destroy Something with Kedusha

11. Sheimos. Anything with kedusha must be treated with the respect it deserves. There is an issur to destroy it, and one who destroys one of the names of Hashem violates the lav d’oraisa of “לא תעשון כן לה' אלוקיכם” (דברים י''ב, ד' ) (רמב''ם ספ ה''מ ל''ת ס''ה ).

12. Kisvei kodesh and divrei Torah. Kisvei kodesh and anything else with divrei Torah, even if they do not have Hashem’s name, are also included in the issur of destroying (מג''א קנ''ד סק''ט ). It does not matter what language they are written in (שו''ע או''ח סי' של''ד סי''ב ). Some say they are included in the issur d’oraisa mentioned above (מג''א שם, ושו''ת משיב דבר ח''ב סי' פ' ); others say the issur to destroy kisvei kodesh and divrei Torah without Hashem’s name is only d’rabanan (רמב''ם פ''ו מיסודי התורה ה''ח, תשב''ץ ח''א סי' ב', נודב''י יו''ד סי' ע''ה ).

13. Printed items. The poskim discuss at length whether sefarim printed from a press are considered “written,” in which case they have kedusha (see at length Issue 44, par. 4 and on), as well as the status of something printed with an electric printer or photocopied. In any case, with regard to geniza, the poskim hold they have kedusha and require geniza (שו''ת שבט הלוי ח''ה סי' קס''ב, הגריש''א, הגר''נ קרליץ ).

14. Shabbos papers. Shabbos papers, including those in other languages, also require geniza, as they contain divrei Torah. Although they are made to only be studied once, they still require geniza since they have divrei Torah (הפוסקים, מו''ר בעל שבט הקהתי ).
