If the Jews follow the dictates of the Torah, Moshe promises that “all these blessings will come on you and capture you”. (28:2)
What is meant by ‘capture’? Isn’t this superfluous?
Degel Machane Ephraim explains that some people flee from what is good. They do not know that the situation that they are facing is to their benefit. Therefore, the ‘good’ must ‘capture’ the person against their will.
We all are familiar with scenarios that do not appear to be good and yet looking back, end up being positive.
You lose your job and you are devastated, and a few weeks later you land an opportunity that is far better. You reluctantly go in for a medical checkup and the doctor identifies and cures something that if not detected would have been serious.
Everyone is familiar with the Yiddish aphorism – “a person plans and G-d laughs.” Moshe is promising that even those cases that do not appear to be positive, they will end up being beneficial.
