How much do oxen weigh?
Oxen are not just work animals, but symbols of strength and perseverance. Before modern farm technology was invented, their strength and reliability made them critical to producing food.
Oxen are essentially young male cows. They are known for their endurance and are often used to plow fields, pull carts, and do other heavy labor. Oxen can be trained to respond to simple verbal commands. They can weigh up to 2,000 pounds, larger and stronger than many other farm animals, and can live up to 20 years in captivity. Oxen have a slow metabolism and eat mostly grass, hay, and grain. They are social animals who can form close bonds with their handlers and other animals, and hold grudges against those who mistreat them.
